Balsam Pond Park Project

MLCA is partnering with the South of 6th Sustainable Neighborhood group to revitalize Balsam Pond Park. The project aims to bring some native, water-wise plants to the park to attract pollinators and wildlife as well as add more benches, walking paths, and potentially art or a labyrinth. We will be applying for the Lakewood NPP grant and are seeking community input on the project and would love your feedback on how to revitalize Balsam Pond. Please fill out this survey.

Update 6/4/2025:

After careful consideration, the South of 6th Sustainable Neighborhood group has decided to wait until next year to apply for the Neighborhood Participation Program (NPP) grant. This gives us more time to thoughtfully plan, build partnerships, and prepare for a successful transformation.

In the meantime, we’re taking several exciting steps forward:

  • A botanist will conduct a plant survey of Balsam Pond Park to better understand what’s growing there now.

  • We’re organizing a series of educational events on Colorado native plants and sustainable landscaping—stay tuned!

  • We’ll continue gathering community ideas and feedback to ensure the future park reflects our shared values.

  • We’re seeking a partner organization to help create an initial design and site map of the proposed improvements.
