MLCA Applies for Grants for Park Improvements

The Lakewood Neighborhood Participation Program (NPP) offers grants of up to $60,000 for qualifying physical improvement projects that residents believe will make a difference in their neighborhood. MLCA was awarded this grant in 2023 to make improvements to Meadowlark Park. We are waiting for Jeffco parks department to install the new grills and stone chess tables so ook for updates later this year regarding the awarded 2023 funds.

For 2024 MLCA will be applying for additional grants through the Lakewood NPP. MLCA is considering applying for:
· Improved landscaping and signage for the Alameda/Carr entrance
· An art sculpture to be installed at Balsam Pond park, and
· Benches for Meadowlark Park!

Come discuss these ideas and your ideas at the May 16th meeting!

Annual Garage Sale in June!
This year’s garage sale will be Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, June 7th, 8th, and 9th from 8am-4pm. Your association coordinates the advertising, and each neighbor hosts their own sale and keeps their proceeds. Neighborhood garage sales are a great way to attract more buyers! *Map* Sign up at  https://form.jotform.com/240655027638055 to have your sale included on a map of the sales!

Community Bike Ride!
Join MLCA and South of 6th on Saturday June 15th! Meet at Meadowlark Park at 9am with your water bottle and snack. We will proceed on a relaxing ride together around the neighborhood. Come early for some informational pamphlets from Jeffco Rides, along with some free bike bells and key chains! All ages welcome!
*Raffle* We will have a raffle for prizes for all of the attendees of the event. Wear a costume to receive an extra ticket in the raffle! One prize will be a 2-hour electric bike rental from Pedego!

 Food Trucks back for 2024!

Letter from the President

Spring is in the air! And it is the start of an exciting year for MLCA! In 2023, MLCA aimed for growth — in membership, participation, and the number of events we organize. We started some great new events such as the Community Bike Ride and the Summer Food Trucks! We continued our traditional events with strong attendance. We launched our MLCA website and improved our online payments system. On behalf of MLCA, thank you for the great participation!

For 2024, we look to build upon the success of last year. We will continue to host our community events. We will be applying for additional grants for improvements to our neighborhood, and we hope to see our approved 2023 grants installed at Meadowlark Park. Together with you, we strive for the goals of our mission statement:

Neighbors working together to create a community that supports quality of life, the safety of our residents, property values, and the integrity of the character of our neighborhood.

Here are some of the things I am looking forward to for 2024:
· Our MLCA Board meeting on May 16th — open to members!
· *New* Movie Night at South Lakewood Elementary — join us at 8pm on May 30st for a movie! (movie starts at 8:30pm)
· Community Bike Ride Event — MLCA and South of 6th will co- host this neighborhood ride on June 15th with a prizes raffle.
· Summer Food Trucks at Meadowlark Park — these gatherings were popular in 2023, and we will continue these in 2024 on
the following Tuesdays: June 11, July 9, and August 13!

I hope you are looking forward to this year as much as I am! This is only possible with your financial support, so please send in your dues to support our neighborhood. Here’s to a great 2024!
