MLCA Applies for Grants for Park Improvements
The Lakewood Neighborhood Participation Program (NPP) offers grants of up to $60,000 for qualifying physical improvement projects that residents believe will make a difference in their neighborhood. In late March of 2023, MLCA applied for three small grants through the Lakewood NPP for the following improvements at Meadowlark Park:
- Adding electrical outlets and additional lighting at the pavilion
- Installing two chess tables and seating at the park
- Installing a charcoal grill near the pavilion!
We look forward to updating you on the status of these applications later this year, and hopefully the installation of one or more of these upgrades!
New Community Garden at South Lakewood Elementary
Denver Urban Gardens (DUG) recently installed a new community garden at South Lakewood Elementary. There are plots available for members of community! Let's grow our community together! If you're interested in the garden or a plot, check out their website or fill out this form.

Letter from the President
Spring is in the air! And it is the start of an exciting year for MLCA! If I had to choose one word to describe the theme for our neighborhood and for MLCA in 2022 it would be recovery. We faced the challenge of organizing the traditional slate of neighborhood events for the first time in several years. We pulled this off with your help! On behalf of MLCA, I thank you for the great participation at these events, particularly the Annual Picnic and Tree Lighting!
For 2023, we look to build upon the success of last year and do even more. I consider the theme for MLCA and our neighborhood this year to be growth! We aim for growth in membership, growth in participation, and growth in the number of events we organize. With these objectives we hope to achieve an overarching goal — growth in the connectedness of our neighborhood and community!
Here are some of the things I am looking forward to for 2023:
- Community Garden at South Lakewood Elementary—the garden is complete and the Grand Opening is May 11th!
- Lakewood Neighborhood Participation Program Grants—MLCA has applied for grants for improvements to Meadowlark Park! • *New* Community Bike Ride Event — MLCA and South of 6th will co-host this bike safety and neighborhood ride event.
- *New* Summer Food Trucks at Meadowlark Park — Tuesdays in June, July, and August we will gather for lawn games and a bite to eat from food trucks at the park!
- Seeing more of all of you! I hope you are looking forward to this year as much as I am!
Please send in your dues to help make this possible. Here’s to a great 2023!
